Trouble at BitsF

In the midst of the chaos of the current flood disaster, I am sad to have to report to you that Bits Festival, like the Drift Restaurant pontoon, is going under.

As some of you were aware, I was not involved in organising the festival in 2010, having a production of my own to deal with. I am only now being made aware of some of the debts that the festival has incurred, and as ours is an unincorporated association, a partnership in effect, we are all personally responsible for those debts.

One of the unexpected debts came about when Tribal Theatre transformed themselves from a sponsor to a renter of space, hitting us with a huge bill for hire of the venue. That reminds me, I must change their status on our website!

So, this is just a brief update, I will let you know more details of the situation as they become available.

Program Update

A hundred thousand apologies, but again – due to circumstances way beyond our control, and beyond the control of any of the performance groups – tomorrow’s performances at Aromas, Regent Street, have been cancelled.

Fringe Bar have very kindly offered to host these shows, so head along there around 2.30 pm and you may be in for a surprise treat. Formal program takes off at 3pm as advertised.

Some changes to the program

Never a dull moment with Fringe theatre! Due to circumstances beyond our control, all of Sunday’s performances will now take place at Tribal Theatre, George Street in the City. Thank you so much, Tribal Theatre!

We also have a change to Saturday’s program, which will be confirmed in an hour or two. Apologies for any inconvenience, we are doing our very best to ensure smoothest possible running, but this is RAW, it is REAL and it is THIS WEEKEND>

We’re Flying High

Brisbane Festival has sent out the word that applications for next year’s Under The Radar will be opening in the next few weeks.

But why wait? Why not register for BitsFestival, now, and join in a fringe festival of like-minded independent theatre makers who don’t need an invitation, or a selection committee to give them permission to perform.

Register at www.bitsfestival.com, select your venue of choice, your time of choice, and present your work in full, or in bits.

Go get those Bits out to share. This is Brisbane’s non-curated Fringe Festival. The team has everything in place to help YOU to make it happen again, bigger and better, and no looking back! (Unless you are doing a production of Orpheus and Euridyce, of course)

Promoting your event?

The Brisbane Festival is still running, there is a whole week in which to enjoy some pretty amazing international work, along with the local program.

New work opening next month includes Oscar TC‘s [title of show], Gwen in Purgatory at Laboite, When the Rain Stops Falling at QTC, and Catholic Schoolgirls at Metro Arts.

Metro Arts are accepting proposals for next year’s Independents Program, get your application in before October 31.

Let me know if you have a show going on in Brisbane between now and BitsF, and we’ll promote it here.
